Preface

Xilinx has done an excellent job in making embedded programming easy for their PowerPC platforms. The PowerPC ISA is widely used and Xilinx has also implemented the popular open source Gnu Compiler Collection in the EDK. This makes coding for the EDK highly portable. Secondarily, the user interface for developing embedded applications in the EDK is very similar to that of traditional development software, but reduced in complexity.
